Issue a refund for a guest's ticket

Refunds for guest tickets are processed directly through Stripe by the event host. Here's how to issue a full or partial refund, what guests are notified, and what happens to processing fees.

Refunds are handled directly through Stripe rather than from within RSVPify. Only the event host - the Stripe account holder - can issue a refund. Collaborators and team members with access to the event in RSVPify cannot process refunds.

Who can issue a refund

Only the host - whoever owns the connected Stripe account for the event - can issue a refund. If you've added collaborators or team members to your event, they won't be able to process refunds even if they have full event management access in RSVPify.

How to issue a refund through Stripe

  1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard and go to Payments.

  2. Find the payment you want to refund and click the overflow menu (...) next to it.

  3. Select Refund payment.

  4. By default, Stripe issues a full refund. For a partial refund, enter a different amount.

  5. Select a reason for the refund. If you choose Other, add a short note explaining why.

  6. Click Refund to confirm.

You can also open a specific payment's details page in Stripe and issue the refund from there.

💡 Note: Refunding a guest's payment in Stripe does not automatically update their registration status in RSVPify. If you'd like their response to reflect that they're no longer attending, update that manually in your Guest List.

Will my guest be notified?

Yes - Stripe automatically sends your guest a refund confirmation email once the refund is issued, letting them know the amount and when to expect it on their statement. This happens by default and doesn't require any extra setup on your end.

Processing time and fees

Stripe submits the refund to your guest's bank or card issuer immediately, though it typically takes 5–10 business days to appear as a credit depending on their bank. Once issued, a refund cannot be canceled.

Processing fees on the original payment are non-refundable. RSVPify's service fee on the transaction is not returned when a refund is issued. If you'd like the guest to absorb that cost, issue a partial refund instead of a full one.
