On a public event, how can I limit the number of guests in a registration?

Learn how to set your event's total capacity and control how many additional guests each registrant can bring on a public event.

If you're hosting a public event, guests can register themselves without being preloaded to your invite list. RSVPify allows you to control both:

  • The total number of attendees allowed for your event overall

  • How many additional guests each registrant can bring

Set Your Overall Event Capacity

Your overall event capacity controls the total number of attendees your event can accommodate. Think of this as the master limit for your entire event. For example, if your venue holds 150 people, this is where you set that ceiling.

To adjust your event capacity:

  1. Open your event dashboard.

  2. Go to your RSVP or Ticketing block.

  3. On the right-hand side, open the General Settings panel.

  4. In the Content section, click the gear icon next to the RSVP option you want to cap (for example, "Attending").

  5. Enter your maximum number of attendees and click Save.

Planner Tip ✨ Think of this as the master attendee limit for your entire event. For Example: If your event venue can hold 150 attendees total, this is where you would control that overall limit.

Set an Additional Guest Limit Per Registration

Once your overall capacity is set, you can control how many additional guests each individual registrant may add to their RSVP.

To adjust this setting:

  1. Open your event dashboard.

  2. Go to your Form Builder.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of your form and click the Add Additional Guest block.

  4. On the right-hand side, open the General Settings panel.

  5. Under Additional Guest Limit, choose one of the following:

  • None -- Registrants cannot add any additional attendees.

  • Limited -- Set a specific number of additional guests per registration (for example, 1 or 2).

  • Unlimited -- Registrants can add as many additional attendees as they like.

If you select Limited and set it to 1, each registrant will see an "Add additional guest" button during registration. Once they use it, the option disappears. You can customize this button label (for example, "Add plus-one") within the same settings panel.

Putting It Together

You might allow up to 300 total attendees for your event while limiting each registrant to 1 additional guest. This lets you accommodate plus-ones without losing control over your headcount.

  • Event Capacity controls the total number of attendees across all registrations.

  • Additional Guest Limit controls how many extra attendees each individual registrant can add.

A Few Things to Note

  • These settings apply to public events where guests register themselves.

  • Public events do not require guests to already be on your invite list.

  • For private or invite-only events, plus-one permissions are managed directly from your Invite List instead.
